Emilie was born in Denmark but currently lives in Romania, and has previously lived in the UK, Spain and Argentina. She holds a BA in History and Politics from Queen Mary, University of London and an LLM in International Human Rights Law and Practice from the Centre for Applied Human Rights at the University of York. She has worked and volunteered in the NGO sector since 2006, and has had a special interest in refugee issues since 2011.
At present, Emilie manages the project IWB for Refugees at Issues Without Borders where she is also currently Vice President. She initially joined the project as researcher for Denmark and is the author of the Danish country report. Before she started full time as Project Manager, Emilie worked with unaccompanied asylum-seeking minors in South East England, and she has past experience in human rights campaigning and volunteer management. She has previously conducted research with refugees in Germany and Malaysia, and in 2016 she took part in a research project assessing the safety and security of human rights defenders in different parts of the world.
Apart from Danish, Emilie is fluent in English and Spanish, possesses basic knowledge of German and French, and has recently taken up learning Arabic and Romanian.
