Albena has a bachelor’s degree in International Relations from Sofia University St. Kliment Ohridski. Last year she completed a master’s degree in Public International Law after graduating from Leiden University in the Netherlands. She is currently working as a Chief specialist at the Dublin Unit of the State Agency for Refugees with the Council of Ministers in Sofia, Bulgaria. Her work is mostly related to the implementation of the Dublin III Regulation and answering to requests from the rest of the Member States part of the Dublin system.
The complex issues surrounding refugees and internally displaced persons in the international sphere is what drove Albena to focus her studies and pursue a career in refugee law and human rights. It is essential to look for most effective ways to protect and assist these groups of people. Thus, she decided she would like to contribute for the enhancement and development of refugee law and she is thrilled with the opportunity to be part of the IWB research team.
